Grazia Philippines had the pleasure of interviewing Sarah Rollins, delving into her transformation from a laid-back Californian to an empowered South Floridian. Here’s what she had to say:
Sarah: “I noticed laid back was a style that gave off the impression someone could have just rolled out of bed, or have been surfing all day, perhaps a celebrity that’s trying to “blend in”- it’s a quiet luxury in a way. Things were perfectly imperfect, not so put together but still definitely a vibe that said, I don’t have anywhere I HAVE to be or anyone I HAVE to dress for… And what is more luxurious than that? Even though I recognized the SoCal chic vibe and I tried my hardest to fit in with it, I’ve always been very drawn to high heels, shine, and anything extraordinary.. which just was always doing too much in the eyes of LA, but in Miami it was not only OK, it was appropriate to be wearing the colors, the patterns, the heels, the hair. Miami is such a vibrant city. A more is more attitude. Perhaps it gives me a hit of dopamine to look down at my long always polished nails, and sparkly handbags or wrist. I really appreciate the duality in both sides of me. “A paradox” as my best friend, a licensed MFT, says to describe me. Extra comfort and sometimes just plain extra!”
Sarah: “Weightlifting has helped me tremendously – and is a passion I’m glad found me. It’s taught me many lessons, an obvious one is to stay composed, mentally, even when the load is heavy. Prepare yourself always, but don’t overthink it.”
Sarah: “Miami as a city has really inspired me to live more colorfully, I definitely went through a minimal and blank stage, very “Instagram friendly”. When you first walk into our condo in Miami we have a huge orange and green painting by Rachel Harris Studio, which is meaningful to me because I have two more from the same set in my LA home. They are giant, vibrant, and have footprints of (what I am pretty sure are) Vans shoes on them, which reminds me of when I was in high school. They’re a set of paintings I equate to being “AT HOME” no matter where I am.”
Sarah: “I don’t see strength and femininity as two opposing attributes.”
Sarah: “A friend of mine once told me, if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready. I definitely live by that. I like to take care of myself already – I imagine closer to the wedding I will cut out caffeine, cut out added sugar and gluten and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!… mostly for my skin to glow. For fashion, I have a great team booked for photography and videography, so I know our vision will come to life beautifully.”
Sarah: “Without me going into too much detail, how I grew up wasn’t conventional, or healthy. From a young age, I knew I wanted love, stability, family, and happiness. I, like any child, didn’t have any say in my upbringing- I just planned on making decisions that wouldn’t continue that cycle. I made good friends wherever I went, good choices for myself, and tried to stay out of trouble – I didn’t have anyone to turn to, bail me out, or help me if I made a mistake. This taught me to be very self-reliant, and since I’ve always yearned to be a part of family and community.”
Sarah: “Don’t let the day happen to you. Be intentional with your time, energy, and what you say yes to. There will be times where it seems impossible, but as soon as you can again strategize for your future self.”
Sarah: “I have my three core values outlined. Honesty is one of them. I feel I should never have to jeopardize that value in order to succeed in a personal or professional goal- and if I do, it’s not meant for me. The truth is my friend. I think once you establish your values it becomes a lot easier.”
Sarah: “Currently we are in the process of moving, for me it will be my 35th time. Creating my “forever home” with the man I love has been quite the dream project. Stay tuned on my new Instagram where I’ll be posting all of the progress and finale! @mrs.sarah.gonzalez. I am working on fostering my female friendships and bridging the gap between friendships and working relationships – we can have it all!”
Sarah: “Instagram has been there for me, and I am very grateful for it, but TikTok is a wonderful platform to reach new people. It feels a lot less intimate and more raw, which is kind of nice; content doesn’t have to be perfect on these fast-paced platforms. Currently, I am working on building up my physically and geographically connected community here in South Florida through organizations I care about.”
Sarah: “Life will always be a balancing act… name your priorities daily, monthly, yearly. Cultivate an environment that’s beneficial to living those out. Priorities can be anything – a person, relationship, religion, job, or health. Get specific.”
Sarah Rollins continues to inspire many with her journey, blending physical strength with mental resilience and a vibrant appreciation for life’s beauty. Her story is a testament to embracing one’s multifaceted power and living with intention and grace. Follow her on Instagram at @mrs.sarah.gonzalez to witness her journey firsthand.
