Interview with Amandine Noworyta
When was the first time you were in Cannes? What is the best you can remember?
It was a few years ago in 2016, I was playing in my first theater play “A VOS SOUHAITS”, I had the opportunity to be invited to Cannes Festival and I had a nice red-carpet event with Bernard MENEZ. It was my first public appearance in a famous movie Festival, and I was very impressed and happy. I had a Roberto Cavalli amazing dress, it was fabulous.
What was the best movie you saw these days in Cannes festival and what you were wearing?
The first movie I saw during the Festival was Francis Ford Coppola “Megalopolis”I was very impatient to see it because he is a major emblematic movie director. I am very fond of Adam Driver and the roles he acted in the past. The subjects he highlighted are numerous, the irreversibility of time, the decline of our polluted civilization, the necessity to change the world, how artists are an important vector to try to change our current world, and how greedy financial leaders are destroying it. He compares our decadent civilization to the Roman Empire during his fall. The movie is a fable that is a little disorienting but with honorable goals, mainly how to leave to our chidren a better world.
I chose a color like lavender for my first red-carpet. This year, this color is making a real comeback and taking the fashion world by storm, and I’ve always loved it. Powerful purple or delicate lavender, purple comes in many facets. I wore a purple silk dress to play the freshness card. To dress up the dress, I added a huge gold chain that covered the magnificent bare back, in the Rapper/Hip Hop style, to give it more Pep.
What fashion means for you?
To borrow a famous quote from French fashion designer Coco Chanel: “Fashion goes out of fashion, style never does.” This phrase embodies the importance of personal style, which goes beyond trends and ephemera. Fashion can enhance a woman, but what is important to me is that it makes her stronger and more confident. I also like the chameleon side that fashion allows, to reveal different facets of one’s personality.
What do you have in your handbag right now ?
I always have with me the glow touch from Yves Saint-Laurent, a real best-seller, the little palette from Rouge that I use as a lipstick and blush and which is really practical. These are my two essentials. Aside from my phone and my Gucci wallet and my keys, I always have a little elastic to put my hair up in a bun if necessary. I usually travel light. As a self-respecting little Parisian, I also always have with me a small bottle from a real perfumer that I recommend in the golden triangle, Montale Paris. The Fragrance I use is rose elixir.
With which criterion you choose to play in a movie?
My first criterion is the quality of the scenario and the role proposed, if I feel that I can make an interesting contribution to it and I can truly embody it. The feeling with the director is also essential for me. I am guided more by the heart than by reason. I also have favorite themes: romantic stories, dreamlike universes. I am also very attracted by stories that revolve around medicine, in another life I would have liked to be a doctor. My favorite films are: Lost in Translation, Virgin Suicide, Dogville, …
Tell us more about your new film Marianne
Marianne is George Sand’s last short story, written just before his death. She was an unconventional liberated woman and Marianne represents her in several aspects. She is a young woman who wants to make her own choices, and not be dependent on the customs and conventions of the time. She discovers that they want to guide her towards a marriage of convenience, while she secretly loves a man who does not think he is worthy of her. It’s a lovely story about procrastinating in love, very romantic, far from the social dramas of our time, I think that in the face of all the horrors we see currently, a little poetry and dreams are welcome in a harsh and sometimes brutal for women. She is a strong-willed woman who remains strong and brave through thick and thin to find happiness. This fight remains timeless. The role inspired me enormously and I hope that you will have as much pleasure discovering it as I had interpreting it.
When the film will come out ?
The movie will be released in September this year and will be presented to movie Festivals and distributed in France and abroad.
Your favorite film director ?
Sophia Coppola without any hesitation, sorry it is a woman not a man, followed by Lars Von Trier and David Lynch. I also like the work of François Ozon.
Tell us more about your role and the common elements you find in yourself and in the role .
Just like my character, even if I have moments of weakness, I try to stay strong and true to my values in an environment that doesn’t always lend itself to that. I hope that, like my heroine, love will triumph over all.
How you describe yourself as a woman?
I am a young woman who has kept a childish side and a certain innocence within herself. Paradoxically I can be strong and determined sometimes to win certain battles because life is a perpetual battle.
Have you ever comforted societal issues?
I am touched by the social issues that are currently being raised, the climate of latent global war, pollution, harassment, poverty. Just like Coppola, I dream of a better world for future generations.
Do you live with rules in your life?
Yes absolutely, we need rules otherwise it’s anarchy, and values. Classical dance gave me a structure of thought and behavior, and I try to stay true to my values so that the little girl that I was and who remains here is proud of my behavior and of what I am becoming.
What is love for you ?
Without respect there is no love. The characteristic of human nature is to transmit its acquired knowledge from generation to generation and this is the most beautiful manifestation of love there is. It’s about giving without expecting anything in return.
Who is your favorite designer ?
Anthony Vaccarello, I am a total fan.
Your favorite holiday destination?
Greece! I love to lose myself in this blue immensity.
Best restaurant in Cannes?
I do not have a favorite restaurant here, I love wondering in the streets and stopping here and there, eat simple things and finish with an ice-cream in my hand on the Croisette.
You biggest wish ?
Find happiness in my life.
